Imperial Bank launches Arsenal Debit Card

 Nairobi, August 29st 2013 – Imperial Bank has is targeting to grow its business in Kenya and Uganda with the introduction of Arsenal-branded debit cards.

This follows the signing of a three-year partnership agreement with English Football Club that will not only help expand Imperial Bank’s business in the two countries but also endear it to its customers.

The financial institution is looking to tap into Arsenal’s huge fan-base by issuing the co-branded debit cards which come with an in-built microchip that will provide greater security and convenience to Imperial Bank customers. The card’s microchip is encrypted to make it difficult for fraudsters to copy or counterfeit hence reducing cases of fraud.

Speaking during the launch of the debit card, Imperial Bank Director Mr. Anwar Hajee said the partnership with Arsenal will enable the financial institution to reach out to new market segments while at the same time supporting its commitment to creating meaningful customer experiences.

“As a company, Imperial Bank is keen to enter into partnerships that impact positively on our business and customers. We believe this deal we have signed with Arsenal will help us to grow our business through the uptake of the cards,” said Mr. Hajee.

Imperial Bank will be offering incentives to enhance the uptake of the debit card with cardholders earning and redeeming loyalty points when they use the cards at selected outlets. Other incentives on offer include official Arsenal merchandise and tickets to see the team in action at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal Football Club’s Partner Services Manager Mr. Gordon Tannock who was present at the event said the partnership will not only enable the club to get closer to its millions of fans on the continent but was also a demonstration of the company’s ambition and desire for continued growth.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Imperial Bank to provide Arsenal branded debit cards to our millions of fans across Kenya and Uganda. The bank is well known and trusted institution that puts its customers, communities and social responsibility at the heart of everything it does.”

With the debit card, millions of Arsenal fans and Imperial Bank customers in the region will have access to over 18,000 merchant outlets in Kenya and over 27 million merchant outlets internationally.  The card also features round-the-clock freedom to access to funds in the customer’s account, access to 1.9 million Visa ATMs across the globe in more than 200 countries.  It is also accepted in over 1,000 Pesa Point and 900 Kenswitch ATMS locally.

As part of the partnership agreement, Arsenal Soccer Schools coaches will be visiting Kenya and Uganda to run coaching clinics. The sessions will run in addition to Imperial Bank’s ongoing activity with local organizations to promote grassroots football, with the aim fora junior team formed from the existing programme to participate in the coaching clinics.
